Foreword
- After the launch of the Tuna Harvest Strategy in FMAs 713, 714, and 715 during the World Ocean Day celebration on June 8th, 2023, various measures related to tuna resources need to be implemented, as outlined in the document: spatial closures, quotas, total allowable catch, and FAD management.
- These objectives can be achieved by increasing scientific knowledge, conducting research, and utilizing technology to promote ocean health. Additionally, support should be provided to small-scale tuna fishers and the tuna industry within the Indonesia Archipelagic Waters (FMAs 713, 714, & 715).
- Lessons learned from the development and enactment of the Tuna Harvest Strategy from 2014 to 2023 can guide future actions. The implementation of the Harvest Strategy should be integrated with the new fisheries policy, known as Indonesia Measurable Fisheries (PIT), to ensure synergy and effectiveness.
Tuna Talks 2024
The Tuna Talks will be held for the second time in 2024 as a discussion forum for scientists and practitioners, facilitating the exchange of experiences from research and academic publications to enhance the management of tuna fisheries. It will also cover perspectives from the market and industrial sectors, as well as surveillance and monitoring efforts.
This edition of Tuna Talks aims to strengthen the collaboration between the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and the Indonesia Tuna Consortium Phase II, along with its five members.
